The 2016 convention has come to a close. Over 170 attendees enjoyed a full 2-day experience at the beautiful Resort at Glade Springs. Hands-on activities and opportunities to share and collaborate with colleagues from around the state highlighted the event.
Jerry Rose, a native of Beckley WV, was on hand to provide an interactive dance workshop and demonstration. Mr. Rose is an accomplished dancer and instructor that has enjoyed a storied career. The Beckley Dance Company, under Mr. Rose’s direction, performed a great rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Dr. Yoav Kaddar, current director of the dance program at West Virginia University delivered an outstanding general session “Dance is the Word”. On Friday morning, Mandy Curry, CEO and Co-Founder of Healthy Kids, Inc., presented a general session discussing her documentary “WV FED UP”. During the annual awards banquet dinner, Dr. Eloise Elliott of West Virginia University delivered an emotional discussion that highlighted the conference theme – Life is Why.
Sessions were held during both days covering a wide variety of activity topics including: dance topics, pregnancy prevention, coaching, family planning, safe food handling, lifetime physical activity, as well as several sessions covering school physical education.
Cody Pyle and the West Teays Elementary School jump team were on hand to deliver an amazing performance as part of the opening ceremonies. The kids were able to enjoy many of the vendors and session activities.
Special thanks to the West Teays Elementary School Jump Team!
“The kids were absolutely amazing and so full of energy. They are truly talented and show what the pure joy of movement and physical activity looks like.”
