Welcome to the West Virginia
Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (WVAHPERD)
website! As we continue to develop this site we would like your help. Let us
know what information you would like to be able to access from our
association. We will be providing membership and conference registration
forms and information on upcoming events. Please send any suggestions you
have to help us serve you better in the future.
Who we are:
The West Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and
Dance (WVAHPERD), founded in 1921, is a non-profit, voluntary membership
corporation formed exclusively to
- help provide comprehensive programs in
health and safety education, physical education, recreation, and dance,
based upon the needs, interests and inherent capacities of individuals
for optimum development.
- encourage the growth of leadership
essential to the continued development of comprehensive programs in the
fields mentioned above.
- promote community relationships leading
to adequate support for programs in these fields.
- stimulate social concern for health and
safety education, physical education, recreation, and dance.
- assist in research and experimentation,
and to disseminate findings.
- cooperate with activities of local,
state district and national associations of health and safety education,
physical education, recreation, and dance.
- affiliate and cooperate with other
associations in improving allied professions.
- establish and maintain high professional
standards.
As President of West Virginia Association of
Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, I extend greetings from
all of our West Virginia Colleagues and welcome you to our website.
As our organization has grown in recent
months, this form of communication has become increasingly important for the
sharing of information vital to your professional interest. We invite
you to visit here often to keep abreast of the latest organizational news,
scheduled events, and professional development opportunities.
Service to our members is paramount to our
mission and we look forward to your personal participation in various events
and activities of our association. Many of these will be prominently
featured on this website throughout the year.
It's been an exciting time in West Virginia
since the inception of our Health and Physical Education Academy. A
year long program bringing together some our best Health and Physical
Education teachers with emphasis on technology, grant writing, pedagogy, and
advocacy.
I look forward to seeing many of you at
professional events that WVAHPERD shall sponsor in the months ahead.
